8th July New Forest Polo Club WIP League - report from NF Chairman Piers Fitzwilliams

This weekend New Forest Polo Club welcomed 25 women polo players for the annual womens charity tournament with all proceeds going to the Women’s Trust. Two levels were played, 0-9 goal and 10-14 goal. Four teams competed in the lower level vying to win the Mwaz Kahn cup. The semi finals were played on the Saturday with Areda beat Pro Fit and the New Forest beat New Forest Polo School to progress to the final on Sunday. With three teams entered into the 10-14 goal an American style tournament was played to ensure that all teams played each other.

Sunday dawned hot and sunny. Plenty of spectators turned up to enjoy the polo clubs fantastic setting. The brilliant committee ran a cake and Pimm’s stand to raise more funds for the brilliant Women’s Trust. The final of the 0-9 goal was played between Areda and the New Forest. After a tough game and New Forest having to fight their way back form a large deficit the Areda team ran out the winners and took home the Mwaz Kahn trophy. The second half of the 10-14 goal round robin saw Maize Dulce, Coombe Place and Akuma women battling out in the glorious sunshine. Akuma played hard but Maize Dulce and Coombe Place proving too strong for them. Maize Dulce ran out the winners of the 10-14 goal. The subsidiary final was played at 3:30 between Pro Fit and New Forest Polo School. This game was lovey and open with plenty of good runs and incredible skill showed by the players. The youngest of who was only 12 years old! Pro-fit ran out the winners and took home the West Country Shield.

This weekends sponers were Women In Polo. They provided some fantastic prizes for all our players, and even provided rugs for the best playing pony in each level. A massive thank you must also go out to everyone that made this weekend run so smoothly and too all the teams that came from both near and far (Cheshire) to play in such a fantastic tournament.

9th June - Dallas Burston

Another fantastic day for ladies polo at Dallas Burston Polo Club on 9th June for the second WIP League tournament this season. It was a great match between Cotswold Airport (Sam Buckles, Suzannah Harvey, Angela Robb and Clare Hocking) and Ladera (Vicky Griffin, Holly Butler, Amy Leggett and Jos Harbshon-Butcher).  Despite tough opposition and strong defence from Cotswold Airport, Ladera ran out the winners with some fantastic polo especially by MVP Holly Butler. Best Playing Pony went to Sam Buckle's superstare pony Pimentina.

Well done to all the players and thank you Huw and Dallas Burston for a glorious Ladies Day!
